Workshop machines 1/9 total scratch

Post by Gilles »

In parallel with the Jaguar, I am building a MFH motorcycle at 1/9 that will be the subject of another topic.

Here I am going to talk about the workshop machines that will go with the motorcycle. Wood, brass, plastic, pieces of lighters, pens and many other things will be used.

Start of the manufacturing of the workbench:

The species used were poplar for the workbench, 2mm plywood for the drawers, and exotic wood (don't ask me which one) for the facades, recovered from a location I don't know.

No workshop without a metal lathe:

Preparation of the chip tray:the mold:

on which I glued several layers of newsprint strips

demolding:

and cutting the bottom which will be replaced by a wooden board, refining of the edges in progress...

The automatic translator can be whimsical. Don't hesitate to ask me questions if the explanations are not clear.

Indispensable complement of the lathe, a drill press.

I took the dimensions of a real machine to convert them into 9/1 and made a draft to get an idea of what I’m getting involved in:

0.5 mm thick brass:

A formed and welded plate comes in addition:

Manufacture of the brass mandrel:
on the left the mandrel in progress, the part in the middle comes from a lead holder 0.5 and the drill bit on the right also in 0.5

test in front of the drill body to see what it will give:

the mandrel is in place (temporarily) and setting up the stop system:

Protective cover for the belt

Plywood 2mm for the bottom, and 0.5 for the sides. For the latter, these are two sheets formed and glued together.

after drying and shaping:

Two plastic sheet "cheeks" are added on the sides to add volume and micro rivets are inserted to give a little more realism (the green thing on the left is one of the many attempts to imitate an electric motor, but it will not be retained)

Just like the trick, it’s still very far from finished but let’s say that the biggest one is done, there will be left at the base to do, the turntable and some details and still refine two or three things, assemble, paint.....

Gilles,
Very Nice! What great detail. Never ceases to amaze me what you can do. If this if is for the background for the motorcycle, cannot wait to see it.
